Bonjour !

Avant de vous en dire plus sur mes projets de l’été, voici un lien vers le site de France Musique ! Podcast d’un concert donné à l’Auditorium du Musée d’Orsay en Octobre dernier avec la pianiste Lidija Bizjak et l’organiste Paul Goussot (à l’harmonium!). Vous pourrez entendre notamment la Havanaise de St-Saens et la Méditation de Thais de Massenet dans ses sonorités inhabituelles et tout à fait d’époque ! Comme dans un salon du second Empire.

Tere kõigile!

After an exciting start of the season with Bach solo recital and french music at Musée d’Orsay, now – heading to Estonia! I am going to give masterclasses at the Music Academy in Tallinn and play a concert on Wed 26th of October with a team of wonderful and talented estonian colleagues. On the programme, Biber Passacaglia for violin solo and Schubert out-of-this-world Cello quintet. Estonia has been on my map since I was a kid as one of my teachers came from there and kept giving me postcards of Tallinn. About eight years ago I have been invited to play Beethoven Concerto in Pärnu – which was a very special time. It absolutely felt like home. And since a few years I have had an even stronger sense of connection there as I have been going to the most exciting festival led by Paavo Järvi in Pärnu. So…can’t wait! Infos here

Hello everybody! 

After a very studious summer reading musicology and aesthetics, back on the road. Can’t wait to come back to Leicester! Two years ago it had been all about Czech music with so many discoveries for me (jewels by Smetana, Dvorak or Suk). Last year we had the craziest time with Beethoven works facing French fin-de-siècle masterpieces. And this year, an incredibly exciting british programme, masterfully composed by Nicholas Daniel! The group of musicians is just wonderful. More infos here 

Shalom lekulam! 

Just back from Kfar Blum Festival in Galilee (what a magical place!) where I had such a good time with wonderful colleagues: Zvi Plesser, Ori Kam and Eric Lesage. I will be back in Israel at the end of April to perform one of my very favorite concertos (you can’t fight it… :-): Brahms with Netanya Chamber Orchestra at Haifa Auditorium. We had a special and beautiful time last November

On March 17th-19th I will be playing in Israel at Kfar Blum Festival with wonderful musicians: Zvi Plesser, cello; Ori Kam, viola and Eric Lesage, piano. On the « menu », among others, two of my teenage absolutely favorite chamber music pieces: Dohnanyi Sérénade (If you haven’t heard of Heifetz-Primrose-Feuermann recording yet, well…run and listen to it!) and Fauré Piano Quartet Nr.1 (which I played as a young student at Verbier Academy & Festival in 2001 but also recently in September at Leicester Music Festival – fond memories!). Can’t wait! 

Premières, Premieres!

On February 15th @Reid_Hall, Paris Columbia Global Center, we played with the amazing finnish cellist Anssi Karttunen, a wonderful « Columbiana » programme including two violin and cello duos – two french premieres – by F. Lerdahl « Give and take » and K. Saariaho « Aure ». This has been such a treat! The place is beautiful and inspiring. A few pics to share with you the experience: 

Parisiennes, Parisiens!

Ce programme intitulé « Columbiana » a été constitué par le violoncelliste finlandais, Anssi Karttunen; un de mes partenaires de musique de chambre favoris! Anssi a regroupé plusieurs pièces écrites par des compositeurs tous connectés avec la prestigieuse Columbia University (alumni, professeurs). Nous jouerons notamment le Duo « Give and Take » de Fred Lerdahl. En parallèle, cela sera l’occasion de rendre hommage au regretté Henri Dutilleux qui aurait eu 100 ans fin Janvier. Anssi jouera une des Strophes sur le nom de Sacher pour violoncelle seul de Dutilleux et en duo, nous jouerons en première francaise une pièce de la compositrice Kaija Saariaho intitulée « Aure« , pièce dédiée à Dutilleux.

Here is a video from Pärnu Festival in Estonia this summer. I was invited by Paavo Järvi to play Tchaikovsky Concerto with the wonderful Youth Orchestra of the Academy. En parallèle aux masterclasses que nous donnerons aux élèves du CRR de Strasbourg les 18 et 19 Janvier, nous nous produirons avec Florent et Anssi dans deux merveilleux trios: le 2e de Schumann, pièce à clés, fascinante, déroutante, si poétique et puis, le trio de Ravel, bijou pur de la musique francaise.
